Safari (BE)
Songwriters, performers, cousins, neighbors, Maro and Amir were practically raised together. From where they come, the working-class neighborhood of Pré-Soray in Seraing, you don’t grow up – you suffocate. So you hurry to push forward, get into all kinds of mischief, and quickly learn the law dictated by this urban jungle. Every person for themselves, maybe, but never alone. That’s how they meet ATLS, a beatmaker and man of the shadows, who channels their desire to rap into his sounds.
Between Maro, Amir, and ATLS, it’s a story of family and friendship from the start. One of those unbreakable bonds that forms when nothing shields you from hardship. Music became their escape, a consuming passion they live every second for as if it were their last. The two MCs and the DJ/beatmaker decide to form a group: Safari.
Ignoring the predetermined path their living conditions suggested, the three of them enroll in the rap workshops at Nectar Kulture. Immediately, the charismatic young men leave an impression. The instructors are moved by their energy, determination, and the raw way they share their struggles. Convinced by their talent, the team at Nectar signs them to their label, Nectar Musiq, providing a team to guide them in shaping their image and musical identity.
Launched into the scene, they perform their first shows. Wild, fierce, and untamable, they quickly become stage beasts, channeling society’s pressures through compositions and punchlines inspired by Travis Scott and PNL.
The public’s enthusiasm is real, giving them the chance to perform at major events, including Festival des Ardentes in 2018 and, in 2019, as the opening act for Lefa. Every concert is another step toward their dreams, marking a major milestone. Professional and perfectionist, they prepare their performances with stage coaching from Kaer. Conquering audiences with every show, they realize they can have a real place in the music world through their passion and relentless work.
Later, Amir is discovered by a talent scout and joins a prestigious modeling agency, soon joined by Maro a few years later.
Through a performance, they make an important connection with Dolfa, an established Belgian rapper and producer, and member of the group OPG. He advises them, approves their new demos Pilule Rouge / Pilule Jaune, and even co-produces a track with ATLS. The two rappers come out of the collaboration proud and motivated.
Then COVID-19 hits, halting everything. Far from being a setback, the pandemic allows Safari to step back and refocus on what truly matters. Aware that everything moves fast today, the artists want to get ahead, not follow trends, but create a new one. In this process, they are supported by the team at Nectar Musiq, whose experience pushes them to dig deep in their lyrics and take a new direction in their music.
