The Psychotic Monks (FR)

Since their debut album, Silence Slowly And Madly Shines (Alter K) in 2017, the members of The Psychotic Monks have continuously impressed with their maturity and determination to deliver a singular presence both on stage and in the studio. Their secret lies in a constant process of self-questioning, which permeates every action and led the band to release Private Meaning First (Vicious Circle / FatCat Records) in 2019, a fiery second album that even redefined the alphabet of their music across two chapters and a fifteen-minute epilogue.

It’s worth noting that there is no single leader in the group – everyone writes, sings, and composes in unison. This approach fosters reflection not only on their musical practice but also on their personal positioning and, naturally, their relationship with the audience. The pandemic provided a period of pause and introspection. Their new tracks were born from long studio improvisations, fully in tune with the subconscious, arriving as an act of resistance against the surrounding chaos.

Their third album, Pink Colour Surgery (Vicious Circle / FatCat Records), produced by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band, is the result of these ongoing reflections. Listeners should not expect traditional “songs” but rather a controlled sonic chaos, where the band has harnessed wild flights of sound to create an uncompromising yet spacious framework, giving each idea its own freedom. The desire to surprise and provoke curiosity remains a central strength of the group. Experiencing their music is an intimate, sensory journey, one whose impact resonates long after the final note.
